Amanda S. - Instructor

Hi! I’m Amanda, and this is my 3rd year with camps! I am earning a graduate degree in Biology in a program offered through the Miami U. and the Woodland Park Zoo. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Benin, Africa, and worked in Entertainment at Walt Disney World and as a VIP Tour Guide at Universal Orlando. I’ve taught and designed drama camps, and currently volunteer for a large carnivore outreach organization. My favorite animals are tigers and bats!

Britt - DDC Lead

Hi! I am Britt and I'm so excited to be back for my twelfth summer as a Little Cheese! I'm a native Seattle girl and spent lots of time exploring the zoo when I was camper-sized. As a grown-up, I graduated from UW and now I'm on faculty at Seattle Children's Theatre! I teach at lots of schools, but love spending my summer vacation at the zoo. When you see me, ask me why I think the slow loris is the coolest animal on the planet!

Emily - Assistant

Hi there! My name is Emily and I am so excited to be helping out at the Discoveries Day Camps at Woodland Park Zoo this summer! I am a recent graduate of Seattle University, where I studied Theatre and Arts Leadership and received a minor in Spanish. I cannot wait to explore the wonders of the natural world through my favorite art form of theatre. We are all in for lots of fun this summer, see you there!

Emma - Assistant

Hi! My name is Emma and I am super excited to spend my first summer in Seattle with the Discoveries Day Camp! A native Ohioan, I have spent the last four years at Bennington College in Vermont getting a degree in Drama and Music. The zoo was my favorite place to visit when I was younger; I can't wait to take all I have learned about drama and imagination and use it to discover more about animals and conservation with you all! Let’s learn and play!

Laura - Assistant

Hey there! I’m Laura, and am so excited for my first summer with DDC! I caught the theatre bug when I played Toto in The Wizard of Oz as a young girl in Spokane. I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in Musical Theatre in New York; for my honors thesis, I co-created and directed an environmental theatre piece. I also performed as a clown at children’s parties! I’m so grateful for this opportunity to inspire kids to take care of our beautiful earth – and to have fun doing it!

Leah - Assistant

Hello! I’m Leah, and am a student at Portland State University studying elementary education. This is my first year at WPZ, so I'm excited to share all the games and songs I’ve learned through camp counseling! I love to hike and backpack, and I’ve loved theater since I was little. I’m looking forward to seeing what silly characters the campers come up with this summer. I can't wait to meet all the campers and spend the summer having fun and learning with them!

Rex - Instructor

Hey! My name is Rex, and I am very excited to join the camp this year. I am originally from Memphis, Tennessee, where I was an avid zoo attender and theatre enthusiast. I later studied theatre in college, and I worked as an educator after graduating. So I very much look forward to using my knowledge of teaching, my creative drama skills, and my love for animals to facilitate an incredible and educational experience for the campers.

Stephanie - Instructor

Hi, I'm Steph and I am so excited to join the Woodland Park Zoo team this summer! I'm originally from Rhode Island, but have made Seattle my new home. During the school year, you can find me teaching classes at Seattle Children's Theatre. Some of my favorite previous creative drama encounters include a pirate who loves to knit, a train conductor with a very serious finger mustache, and an opera-singing frog. I can't wait to see who we meet next!

Ylfa- Instructor

Hi! My name is Ylfa, and I think it’s fantastic that my first summer in Seattle gets to be at the zoo with campers! As an educator, I’ve worked with Luther College in Iowa, Lincoln Park Zoo and the Forest Preserves of Chicago, and an environmental non-profit in San Diego. I studied theatre at the University of Oregon, and my work in theatre since then has featured a lot of puppets, robots, pyrotechnics, and animal stories. And confetti.
