Amanda S. - Instructor

Hi! I’m Amanda, and I am thrilled to join the Woodland Park Zoo this summer! I have a degree in Communication, I taught English in Africa in the Peace Corps, worked in Entertainment at Walt Disney World for over 5 years, was a VIP Guide at Universal Orlando for over 2 years, and currently work with special education students. I’ve also taught drama camps, and volunteer for a wildlife outreach organization. My favorite animals are tigers and bats!

Alex - Instructor

Hi, I’m Alex, and I’m so excited to be an Instructor at the zoo this summer! I recently completed the Teaching Apprentice program at the Seattle Children’s Theatre, and before that I spent three summers as a Teaching Assistant at the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis. After graduating with a BA in English from Whitman College in 2015, I’m almost a year into my post-grad Seattle adventure. My favorite animals are tigers, whales and pugs!

Michaela - Instructor

Hi! I’m Michaela, I’m a senior at SPU studying ecology. I have been a volunteer at WPZ for a year and a half and although I’ve been a camp counselor for years this is my first year with DDC. I love being outdoors and playing in dirt, discovering cool facts about animals, and finding new ways to have fun. When I’m not studying or at the zoo you can find me biking, running, cooking, or riding my unicycle! I can’t wait to have some adventures!

Rex - Instructor

Hey! My name is Rex, and I am very excited to join the camp this year. I am originally from Memphis, Tennessee, where I was an avid zoo attender and theatre enthusiast. I later studied theatre in college, and I worked as an educator after graduating. So I very much look forward to using my knowledge of teaching, my creative drama skills, and my love for animals to facilitate an incredible and educational experience for the campers.

Deanna - Assistant

Hello! My name is Deanna. I’m going into my junior year at the Laguna College of Art and Design way down in southern California, but I grew up just north of Seattle. I’m psyched to be working with the Woodland Park Zoo, where I spent many a childhood Saturday! Nowadays I spend my not-school time hiking, reading, visiting museums, and sending pictures of baby animals to my friends. I’m looking forward to a totally awesome summer!

Julia - Assistant

Hey! I’m Julia, and I’m super psyched for camp this year! This will be my first year here, so I’m excited to learn from all you. I am in my third year of college and studying Integrated Studies for Education and Theatre (basically how to act and make kids’ TV!). Outside of the zoo, my favorite hobbies are playing the ukulele, skateboarding, singing, making people laugh, watching sci-fi movies, and candy. This is gonna be a blast!

Juliette - Assistant

Hi! My name is Juliette. I’m an incoming freshman at Santa Clara University where I’m majoring in Acting. This will be my first summer working at the zoo as a Discovery Day Camp assistant and I’m so excited! I’m passionate about the environment, animals, and theatre. I can’t wait for this summer to start!

Andy - Assistant

Hi! My name is Andy! I love "working" with kids, because it never feels like work! I earned my degree in art education from Northern Illinois University. Some of my favorite jobs have been Girl Scout camps, planning programs at a children's museum, and teaching preschool. I’ve been involved with all types of performance, including theater, dance, music, and storytelling. I'm so excited for Discovery Camp! WPZ is the place to be!

Britt - DDC Lead

Hi! I am Britt and I'm so excited to be back for my tenth summer as a Little Cheese! I'm a native Seattle girl and spent lots of time exploring the zoo when I was camper-sized. As a grown-up, I graduated from UW and now I'm on faculty at Seattle Children's Theatre! I teach at lots of schools, but love spending my summer vacation at the zoo. When you see me, ask me why I think the slow loris is the coolest animal on the planet!
