TEEN TALKS & TOURS

 

Teen Talks and Tour is a pilot program designed to give you an insider’s view of Woodland Park Zoo’s operations, conservation efforts, and career opportunities. We are looking for your honest feedback to shape future educational experiences. As a participant, you’ll be asked to attend a follow-up feedback session and complete surveys before and after your visit.

 Option #1: Zoo Careers - Explore incredible animal and conservation careers!

Canada Lynx

Participants: Groups of 6 to 25 high school-aged youth who are curious, passionate, and interested in conservation, animal wellbeing, and the environment.
Availability: Weekdays and select weekends between 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., January – May 2025
Time Commitment: Up to 4 hours at the zoo, and 5 hours total 

Join us for a 90-minute learning experience that will explore diverse zoo and conservation career opportunities. Tours include a peek behind the scenes of Woodland Park Zoo, stories from passionate professionals, and the opportunity to learn how your interests can contribute to wildlife conservation.

Have more time?  We also offer two additional activities that can be added to the Zoo Careers Tour. 
  • Career Panel (45 minutes): Join a group of 4-6 zoo staff for an interactive panel discussion focused on their career pathways and current jobs at the zoo.
  • Enrichment Crafting (45 minutes): Animal keepers at Woodland Park Zoo provide enrichment that encourages animals' natural behaviors like foraging, browsing, hunting, seeking out new scents and marking territories. Get involved in animal care by helping to make enrichment for our animals!

Option #2: Act for Wildlife - Explore how you too can join WPZ in making conservation a priority in your life!

Participants: Groups of 6 to 25 high school-aged youth who are curious, passionate, and interested in conservation, animal wellbeing, and the environment.

Join us for a 2-hour educational experience focused on Woodland Park Zoo's conservation efforts. Tours include interactive activities focused on human and wildlife co-existence, local and global conservation challenges and efforts, and the opportunity to explore how your actions can have an impact.

Have more time? We also offer two additional activities that can be added to the Conservation Tour.  
  • Be a Scientist (60 minutes): Engage in a hands-on activity to use your scientific investigation skills and think like a conservation scientist by tackling questions about protecting habitats and wildlife.  
  • Conservation Talk with WPZ’s Conservation Team (45 minutes): Join one of our conservation staff for an engaging talk about the work they do both at the zoo and in the field, including how they got into conservation work.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Zoo Careers Exploration Day

Date: Friday, October 11, 2024
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. 
Age: 13 - 18 years
Cost: $20.00 per youth

Join us this fall to explore diverse career pathways and learn firsthand what Woodland Park Zoo is all about. You'll hear from a career panel of zoo professionals and have a chance to ask all the questions in a joint Q&A and individual breakout sessions. Leave with some tips about educational paths and experiences that can help launch you into a zoo or conservation career. After the program is over, you will be able to explore the zoo for the rest of the day on your own!
