Zoo Sprouts 

Early Childhood Parent and Child

Whether you are new to the zoo or visit weekly, a Zoo Sprouts class is a chance for you and your child together to spend time with other animal lovers, including a special zoo guide who will help you get to know our amazing animals even better. Each hour and a half adventure will start in the classroom with activities exploring the amazing world of animals through movement, creative play, stories, art and songs. Next, your guide will lead you on a journey of discovery to learn more about zoo animals relating to the class theme.

Adults and children 3-5 years
$25 per adult/child pair, $10 each additional family member 3-5 years
Time: 10-11:30 a.m.

Spring Schedule

3216: Apr 13, 10-11:30 a.m. Busy Bears
Brown bear, brown bear what do you see? I see a sloth bear looking at me! One type of bear at the zoo likes to eat insects and sucks them up into their mouth like a straw. The other type of bear at the zoo has a muscular hump between its shoulders to help dig their winter dens. Find out who is who in this class about bears. 

3226: Apr 20, 10-11:30 a.m. Terrific Tigers
Did you know that like our fingerprints, no two tigers have the same pattern of stripes? To learn more come meet Eko, Olan and Liem the three tiger brothers that live at the zoo. Together we’ll trek through Banyan Wilds to discover more about these magnificent Malayan tigers.

3236: Apr 27, 10-11:30 a.m. Gorilla gorilla gorilla
Gorillas are the largest primate on earth and are considered by scientists to be one of the most intelligent animals! What do gorillas have in common with you? Join us as we explore the world of gorillas at the zoo.

3246: May 4, 10-11:30 a.m. Backyard Butterflies
They flutter… they fly… and if you look close enough, you can sometimes see them resting their wings on a flower nearby! Butterflies come in all different sizes, shapes and colors, and no two are exactly alike! Explore the types of beautiful butterflies you might find in your back yard, and learn about the big job these little creatures have as they fly from flower to flower.

Young Explorers

Young Explorers child and parent

Learn to engage your child’s wonder and curiosity about nature. During our one hour adventure become a parent naturalist. Exploring a natural, outdoor area at the zoo, you will learn to guide your child in nature play, explore natural play stations, hear a puppet story, and even meet a live zoo animal. Grown-ups must come ready to play! Class is rain or shine; please dress appropriately. We will not be touring zoo grounds during this class, but encourage you to do so after the program.


Fee: $20 per adult/child pair, $7 each additional family member 2-5 years
Ages: Adults and children 2-5 years
Time: 9:45-11:00 a.m.

There are no Young Explorers classes scheduled at this time.  Young Explorers classes take place in the warmer months of the year.  New classes will be posted on May 1.
