Zoo Sprouts 

Early Childhood Parent and Child

Whether you are new to the zoo or visit weekly, a Zoo Sprouts class is a chance for you and your child together to spend time with other animal lovers, including a special zoo guide who will help you get to know our amazing animals even better. Each hour and a half adventure will start in the classroom with activities exploring the amazing world of animals through movement, creative play, stories, art and songs. Next, your guide will lead you on a journey of discovery to learn more about zoo animals relating to the class theme.

Adults and children 3-5 years
$25 per adult/child pair, $10 each additional family member 3-5 years
Time: 10-11:30 a.m.

3256: Jun 14, 10-11:30 a.m. Backyard Butterflies
Is it a butterfly?  Or a moth?  How can you tell?  They both flutter… and fly… and if you look closely enough, you can sometimes see them resting their wings on a flower nearby! Butterflies and moths come in all different sizes, shapes and colors, and all of them have a big job as they fly from flower to flower.

3266: Jun 28, 10-11:30 a.m. Sounds of the Savanna
The savanna is alive and roaring with the sounds of life! Join us for a fun and musical exploration of the African Savanna.  We will explore the sounds of homemade instruments, stories, lions, zebras and more.  Bring your dancing shoes and join us at the zoo!

3316: Jul 20, 10-11:30 a.m. Outrageous Otters - FULL
Otter families both large and small love to splash and play games just like you.  Learn about the Asian small-clawed otters and our native North American otters.  Together, we'll figure out which is bigger, which has the largest family, and which is the fastest swimmer.

3326: Jul 28, 10-11:30 a.m. Trek the Northwest 
Pack your bags and hit the trail as we take a journey into the great Northwest. We’ll make camp, howl like the wolves and discover what amazing animals call the Northwest forest their home.  We will be exploring habitats from our backyards to the Alaskan tundra.

3336: Aug 3, 10-11:30 a.m. Real Cool Cats - FULL
Join us as we explore the world of cats in the wild!  Did you know that an adult lions roar can be hear from 5 miles away?Cats are truly amazing animals, so come learn what makes them the coolest critters at the zoo.   We will explore the zoo to get a close up look at some of our feline families and their unique habitats.

3346: Aug 11, 10-11:30 a.m. Jungle Book Adventures - FULL
There is more than one man-cub in this jungle! Come swing on the vines with orangutans, find out about the bear necessities with our sloth bears, and perhaps even see a friendly tiger (or three)!

Young Explorers

Young Explorers child and parent

Learn to engage your child’s wonder and curiosity about nature. During our one hour adventure become a parent naturalist. Exploring a natural, outdoor area at the zoo, you will learn to guide your child in nature play, explore natural play stations, hear a puppet story, and even meet a live zoo animal. Grown-ups must come ready to play! Class is rain or shine; please dress appropriately. We will not be touring zoo grounds during this class, but encourage you to do so after the program.


Fee: $20 per adult/child pair, $7 each additional family member 2-5 years
Ages: Adults and children 2-5 years
Time: 9:45-11:00 a.m.

Learn about spiders and the webs they spin! Did you know that spiders eat more insects than birds and bats combined?Often feared or misunderstood a spider’s life is unique and they provide an important role in forests and your backyards!

2316: Jul 5, 9:45-11:00 a.m. Digging in the Dirt - FULL
Did you know that 1 Tablespoon of soil has more organisms in it than there are people on earth? Come play in the dirt and join us for some messy fun.We will dig for worms, make dirt pies for trees and create your own mud art! No need to worry about staying clean here!

2326: Jul 21, 9:45-11:00 a.m. Poo at the Zoo - FULL
Just like you and me animals at the Zoo poo too. Did you know that humbolt penguins build their nest in the guano (poop) from seabirds?Join us in Zoomazium’s backyard to learn more about poo, or scat, as we call it at the zoo. You may even leave with a little doo for you!

2336: Jul 27, 9:45-11:00 a.m. Brilliant Butterflies - FULL
Flutter like a butterfly, pupate like a pupa and crawl like a caterpillar.  Meet an insect and explore the world of butterflies.  Where do they live?  What do they eat?  How do they fly?  Did you know they taste with their feet!

2346: Aug 4, 9:45-11:00 a.m. Peek a Boo - FULL
Peek-A-Boo! Where are you? Learn the tips and tricks from our best animal hiders and even meet one up close!  Search for hidden creatures and perfect your own camouflage skills as we play hide and seek at the zoo!

2356: Aug 10, 9:45-11:00 a.m. Colors of Nature - FULL
Nature is full of color.  What colors are the easiest to find and what are the hardest? Discover why some plants and animals brightly colored while other blend in and camouflage.  We will discover and celebrate all colors in nature while we explore Zoomazium’s backyard.
