Zoo Sprouts 

Early Childhood Parent and Child

Whether you are new to the zoo or visit weekly, a Zoo Sprouts class is a chance for you and your child together to spend time with other animal lovers, including a special zoo guide who will help you get to know our amazing animals even better. Each hour and a half adventure will start in the classroom with activities exploring the amazing world of animals through movement, creative play, stories, art and songs. Next, your guide will lead you on a journey of discovery to learn more about zoo animals relating to the class theme.

Adults and children 3-5 years
Fee:
$25 per adult/child pair, $10 each additional family member 3-5 years
Time: 10-11:30 a.m.

3117: Jan 11, 10-11:30 a.m. Dragons & Monsters
Dragons and monsters... at the zoo?! You won't need armor for this class; these reptiles supply their own.  Explore the world of lizards at the zoo and learn more about what makes Komodo dragons and Gila monsters as unique as their names.

3127: Jan 12, 10-11:30 a.m. Radical Reptiles
Stay warm and dry and still get your animal fix by getting to know the scaly creatures that live in our cozy indoor exhibits! Join us for games, stories and crafts in the classroom before heading out into the zoo to visit our snakes, lizards, tortoises and more!

3137: Jan 17, 10-11:30 a.m. Birds of a Feather
Did you know the chicken is the closest living relative to the T Rex? Join us to find out more and investigate the world of birds! Learn about eggs, feathers, beaks and songs while discovering all kinds of birds that live at the zoo. 

3147: Jan 25, 10-11:30 a.m. Rockin’ in the Rainforest 
Join us for an auditory adventure!  The rainforest is home to many animals, sounds and harmonies.  We’ll create our own rainforest using music, instruments and animal noises before heading out to see some amazing rainforest animals at the zoo.

3157: Jan 26, 10-11:30 a.m. Tropical Travels
Come visit Banyan Wilds exhibit and travel to the tropics of India and Malaysia in search of tigers, sloth bears and otters of course.  Did you know that small clawed otters are very social and communicate using over 12 different kinds of vocalizations?  Join us to find out more about all these amazing animals.

3187: Jan 31, 10-11:30 a.m. Ginormous Giraffes
Did you know that the pattern of spots on every giraffe is unique just like your fingerprints?  Not only are they the tallest animal in the world but these gentle giants have four stomachs and a long, purple tongue!  Join us as we explore the world of giraffes and see how you measure up.

3167: Feb 8, 10-11:30 a.m. Lounging Lions
Lions, like other cats, love to sleep and their roar can be heard from more than 5 miles away. What else do lions do? Join us as we pounce, stalk and roar in our own lion pride! Learn more about our lions and visit them at their exhibit.

3177: Feb 9, 10-11:30 a.m. Family Farm
Old MacDonald isn't the only one with a farm worth singing about.  Learn about the farm animals here the zoo!  Practice your moos, oinks and clucks.  Plant seeds to start your own farm at home and visit your favorite farm animal.

Young Explorers

Young Explorers child and parent

Learn to engage your child’s wonder and curiosity about nature. During our one hour adventure become a parent naturalist. Exploring a natural, outdoor area at the zoo, you will learn to guide your child in nature play, explore natural play stations, hear a puppet story, and even meet a live zoo animal. Grown-ups must come ready to play! Class is rain or shine; please dress appropriately. We will not be touring zoo grounds during this class, but encourage you to do so after the program.

 

Fee: $20 per adult/child pair, $7 each additional family member 2-5 years
Ages: Adults and children 2-5 years
Time: 9:45-11:00 a.m.

There are no Young Explorers classes scheduled at this time.  Young Explorers classes take place in the warmer months of the year.  New classes will be posted on May 1.    

 

Registration

All registration confirmations are sent via email and will come to you from an address ending in @zoo.org. Please make sure to read your confirmation and all attachements. Please contact us if you do not receive a registration confirmation.

Need to make changes to or cancel an existing registration? Call 206.548.2424 x4. At this time changes and cancellations cannot be done through our online registration system.

Please note that a minimum of two (2) weeks notice of cancellation is required for a change in program date or a refund or credit of program fees. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds or credits for any changes or cancellations received less than two (2) weeks prior to the program start date.
