EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS

 

Zoo Sprouts 

Early Childhood Parent and Child

Whether you are new to the zoo or visit weekly, a Zoo Sprouts class is a chance for you and your child together to spend time with other animal lovers, including a special zoo guide who will help you get to know our amazing animals even better. Each hour and a half adventure will start in the classroom with activities exploring the amazing world of animals through movement, creative play, stories, art and songs. Next, your guide will lead you on a journey of discovery to learn more about zoo animals relating to the class theme.

Adults and children 3-5 years
Fee:
$25 per adult/child pair, $10 each additional family member 3-5 years
Time: 10-11:30 a.m.

Registration note: Please only complete the online registration for paying participants. Although they are welcome to attend, please do not register additonal adults.

Fall Schedule


3356: Sept 13, 10-11:30 a.m. Plucky Penguins
Waddle on over for a morning of penguin filled fun! Play penguin games, listen to a fun penguin story, see penguin feathers up close and make a penguin craft before heading over to view our resident Humboldt penguins. 

3366: Sept 27, 10-11:30 a.m. Terrific Tails - CANCELED
Big tails, short tails, fuzzy tails, curly tails; there are so many tails to see at the zoo! See a fun puppet story about tails, meet an animal with a really cool tail, craft a tail of your own and tour the zoo in search of more terrific tails.

3416: Oct 11, 10-11:30 a.m. Big Brown Bears
Come trek the zoo's Northern Trail to see Keema and Denali, our two Grizzly Bears! We will learn about a day in the life of our big brother bears. Discover what they eat, how they play and who their neighbors could be.

3426: Oct 19, 10-11:30 a.m. Exploring the Evergreens
 Many animals make their home right here in the Pacific Northwest
. What's in the top of the evergreen forest? Who likes to hide under the over of the canopy? In this class we will start in the classroom and then take a hike through the Northern Trail and explore our forest dwelling creatures.

3436: Oct 25, 10-11:30 a.m. Spooky Spiders
Feeling spooky with Halloween right around the corner? Come visit the zoo to see some of our favorite eight legged friends, and see how amazing they are! You may just leave thinking spiders aren't so spooky after all... 

3446: Oct 27, 10-11:30 a.m. Farm and Foliage
Join us to crunch the falling leaves, build scarecrows, carve pumpkins and more autumn fun. Then we will head to the family farm to see how our farm animals get ready for winter as autumn comes and goes.

3456: Nov 2, 10-11:30 a.m. Zoo Vets
What's it like to be a veterinarian at the zoo? In this fun class children will be transformed into veterinarians and explore what it's like to look after our youngest residents. You'll also get an up-close look at how we help our animals stay healthy.

3466: Nov 3, 10-11:30 a.m. Hungry, Hungry Hippos
You would have to search far and wide at the zoo to find an animal as hungry as a hippo! How much food does our hungry hippo need every day to be happy? How heavy can a hippo get? Come see Guadalupe and Water Lily to find out!

Young Explorers

Young Explorers child and parent

Learn to engage your child’s wonder and curiosity about nature. During our one hour adventure become a parent naturalist. Exploring a natural, outdoor area at the zoo, you will learn to guide your child in nature play, explore natural play stations, hear a puppet story, and even meet a live zoo animal. Grown-ups must come ready to play! Class is rain or shine; please dress appropriately. We will not be touring zoo grounds during this class, but encourage you to do so after the program.

 

Fee: $20 per adult/child pair, $7 each additional family member 2-5 years
Ages: Adults and children 2-5 years
Time: 9:45-11:00 a.m.

There are no Young Explorers classes scheduled at this time.  Young Explorers classes take place in the warmer months of the year.  New classes will be posted on May 1.

All registration confirmations are sent via e-mail and will come to you from an address ending in @zoo.org. Please make sure to read your confirmation and all attachements. Please contact us if you do not receive a registration confirmation.

Need to make changes to or cancel an existing registration? Call 206-548-2424 x4. Changes and cancellations cannot be done through our online registration process.

Changes and cancellations are allowed up to two (2) weeks in advance of the program start date.
