Thrive Leadership Awards is an awards dinner and fundraiser that brings together close to 300 Puget Sound region business and community leaders, as well as conservation leaders and local philanthropists, giving them an “inside glimpse” in to what makes Woodland Park Zoo a valued community asset. During this exciting evening (February 27, 2018) at the Four Seasons Seattle, Woodland Park Zoo will honor the local and international leaders who help make our wildlife conservation mission possible. Dr. K. Ullas Karanth and Dr. Krithi K. Karanth, our keynote speakers and 2018 Conservation Leadership Award honorees, have dedicated their lives to wildlife conservation in complementary ways. Originally trained as an engineer, Dr. K. Ullas Karanth changed careers to pursue his passion for wildlife. A pioneer in rigorous ecological studies of tigers and developing camera trap surveys, Karanth has also combined his science with pragmatic conservation solutions to create more space for wild nature to thrive in crowded India. Dr. Krithi K. Karanth’s research in India encompasses the complex human dimensions of wildlife conservation, including mammal extinctions, tourism trends, human-wildlife conflicts, and resource and land use change around Indian parks. This father-daughter force is blazing a path for conservation professionals the world over.
