Zooper Camp Staff Bios

Amy - Assistant

My name is Amy. Zooper camps have been a part of my life since I was 8 years old.  I started out as a camper then a volunteer and now I get to be on staff.  For the past 4 years I have been part of the Zoo Corps program. That means that I have spent quality time working with bugs (specifically caterpillars) and kids in Zoomazium, Classes and Camps, and all over the zoo.   I am currently studying Biology at WWU. My Favorite animal is an Elephant!

Andrew - Instructor

Hey everyone! My name is Andrew. I am super excited to spend my second summer here at Zooper Day Camp. I love being loud, playing games, singing songs, and showing all my campers some of the coolest animals in the zoo. My background is in Secondary Social Studies, but I have spent ten years working in summer camps and outdoor education. My favorite animal is the Pudu, the worlds smallest deer! I cannot wait to meet you all for a great summer.

Kate - Assistant

Hey everyone! I am Kate. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Zoology here at Woodland Park Zoo through the Advanced Inquiry Program and also spend my weekends volunteering in the zoo’s penguin unit. I have spent the last few years working and volunteering my time at multiple zoos in areas such as zoo camp, animal management, and education. I most enjoy teaching and inspiring people about animals and our natural world and couldn’t think of a better place for this than the zoo!

Carolyn - Instructor

Hello! My name is Carolyn, and I am so excited to meet everyone at camp! This will be my first summer at the zoo, having just moved from Michigan to Seattle in May. I am a schoolteacher by training, but have spent years teaching kids about nature. When I’m not exploring and playing at the zoo, you can find me hiking, kayaking, taking pictures, and playing with my dog. I have a soft spot for “unhuggable” animals; my favorite is the opossum!

Bobby - Assistant

Hello I’m Bobby!  I am a Bio major at Gonzaga and am super excited to be part of Zooper Camps. I literally grew up at Woodland Park Zoo and have been coming to visit since I was 1. Through most of high school I was part of the ZooCorps program, both as a volunteer and intern. I can’t wait to share this experience with all of you and maybe teach you a little about my favorite animal (it’s a tree kangaroo) and the rest of the amazing animals at the zoo.

Julie - Instructor

Hi! I'm Julie and I've been a teacher with Shoreline Children's Center's Extended Day program for over 16 years, before and after school for K-6th graders. I absolutely love working with kids, watching them discover new things, meeting challenges and helping them succeed! I have a passion for learning and life, I love to sing, draw, paint, and read. I am super excited to share my second summer at the zoo with you!

Jess - Assistant

Hey! I’m Jess, and my favorite animal is the hippo!  I will graduate this May from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Fine Arts and coursework in environmental and educational studies.  I love being outside and working with kids.  Two summers ago I taught English to kids in Ecuador and it was the most amazing experience of my life! I’m excited to try and have even more fun this summer at the zoo!!

Dan - Instructor

My name is Dan. I am a recent transplant from Chicago and could not be happier to be spending my first full summer at Woodland Park Zoo! Although a history teacher by trade, I have always had a fascination with animals and the natural sciences in general. My passions are music, all things happy and humorous, helping to create lifelong learners and of course…the Chicago Blackhawks. I am truly looking forward to a fun-filled summer and I hope that you are too!

Jessie - Assistant

Hey, I’m Jessie! I made my way to Seattle after graduating from UConn last May with a degree in Fish & Wildlife Conservation. My love for teaching kids about nature has taken me to some pretty awesome places… I’ve gone on safari in South Africa, snorkeled with campers in Florida, and even lived on an island with no running water! I can’t wait to start my next teaching adventure here at Woodland Park Zoo!

Liz - Instructor

Hi, my name is Liz and I’m thrilled to be part of Zooper this summer! I recently graduated with my Master’s in Teaching, and have been working as a substitute teacher; it is an unpredictable adventure, and I love every minute of it! I also worked for three years as a preschool teacher. My time there left me continually amazed by children, their ability to learn, and the simple power of a silly song. We are going to have an awesome summer together!

Travis – Assistant

Hello! My name is Travis. I have recently graduated with a zoology degree from Michigan State University. I have a passion for teaching children and allowing them to learn about animals and the environment surrounding them in new and exciting ways.  I have volunteered in a special needs camp for four years, worked as an education intern at Binder Park Zoo and have two years’ experience as an assistant teacher at an Early Learning Center. I am excited to meet everyone at camp.

I’m sure we will have a fantastic summer together!

Camille – Assistant

Hello everyone! My name is Camille. I am currently studying neuroscience and classics at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, GA but I went to high school right here in Seattle. The northwest is such a cool place to live and I like to enjoy it as much as possible by hiking, swimming in Lake Washington, and exploring our beautiful city.  This summer is going to be so much fun and I can’t wait to teach you about all the awesome animals we have at the zoo.

Adam – Instructor

Hey everyone! My name is Adam and I am SO excited to be returning to the Woodland Park Zoo family! I used to be a member of ZooCorps and am happy to come home. I cannot wait for this summer in the Seattle sun hanging with my favorite animals. I am passionate about working with children, coupled with my enthusiasm for animals; the zoo is the perfect fit. I am a passionate and outgoing person and I love meeting new people. Feel free to come up to me and say hi! I promise I don’t bite.

Substitute Staff

Carissa – Assistant

Hi, I’m Carissa! I just graduated from Seattle University with a degree in Environmental Studies and have spent the last two summers working at the summer camp program at the San Diego Zoo. I love teaching kids about neat animals, plants, and the awesome ecosystems they are a part of. I can’t wait to do this some more at the Woodland Park Zoo! I also love hiking, tidepooling, hanging out near the water, and exploring urban nature.

Haven - Instructor

Hi my name is Haven. I'm currently going to school to be a zoologist with a minor in education. This will be my third year working at the Woodland Park Zoo. The past two summers I was the Kinder Camp Assistant and worked many Parents Night Outs in the off season. I'm so proud to be part of this wonderful team again and I can’t wait to see all the returning campers and new faces this summer and introduce them to our furry, scaly, and feathery friends.

Tally - Instructor

Hey! I'm Tally. I left my small-town horse farm and came to the big city to pursue my education at the University of Washington. Summer camp and animals have been two favorite parts of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Girl Scouting, coached downhill skiing in Olympic National Park, and my fondest memories come from teaching summer horsemanship camp. I love laughing until my belly hurts, dreaming of tigers, and dancing to country music.

Oliver - Assistant

Hello all! My name is Oliver and I am super excited to be joining Zooper Camp this summer. During the school year you can find me working at The Seattle Children’s Theatre as Front of House Manager. Throughout the year I am also involved in various improv shows around town. I hold a BA in Theatre from California Lutheran University. I look forward to exploring, creating and imagining with the campers this summer.
