Spring Safari: African Wildlife Conservation Day

Saturday, April 16, 2016 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Celebrate the African savanna and the amazing animals that live there. This full day of activities focuses on migration patterns of African animals, educational keeper talks and special enrichment sessions to heighten awareness about issues such as illegal poaching and habitat loss, and how your choices and actions can help save giraffe, lions, ostrich and other critical savanna animals.

Kick off the day with a fun, educational Kids’ Migration 1K run/walk around the main loop of the zoo. Kids participating in the race will have the opportunity to choose their migration animal as well as make various stops during the run at migration stations to learn about the migration patterns of African animals. Each migration station will require kids to use their skills and senses to find food, water and a migration buddy. The stations will also have activities for kids and parents alike to learn what animals migrate and why.

Spring Safari will also feature kids’ crafts, coloring activities, keeper talks, giraffe feedings (additional fee) and more throughout the zoo’s African exhibit areas. In addition, local African performance group Gansango Music & Dance presented by Seattle Theatre Group will perform in Zoomazium and local children’s book author Clare Meeker will hold story time at the ZooStore West.
