Zoo For All: Honoring Those Who Serve

To honor veterans and active duty military members in the Puget Sound area, Woodland Park Zoo is hosting Honoring Those Who Serve, a day for military families to enjoy the zoo.

During Honoring Those Who Serve, Woodland Park Zoo will extend free admission to active, reserve, retired, and veteran U.S. military personnel and one family member with valid service identification. The zoo will also be offering 10 percent discount on purchases at our ZooStores and the Rain Forest Food Pavilion.

Activities for that day will include:

  • Resource fair on veteran and family services
  • Free lemonade 12:00-1:00 p.m.
  • A pop-up story-telling booth where people can record their zoo memories

Sessions held at the Tundra Center (located in the Northern Trail exhibit):

  • American Red Cross mind and body workshop 10:00-11:00 a.m.
  • OARS for Woman Veterans founder Julia Sheriden 11:00-12:00 p.m.

Sessions held at the Center for Wildlife Conservation (next to the Butterfly Garden):

  • American Red Cross mind and body workshop 12:30-1:30 p.m.
  • Wounded Warriors Project compassion fatigue workshop with Michael Verdonk 2:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Peter Zahler presentation on wildlife conservation in Afghanistan 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Julia Sheriden discussion on women in the military 5:00-6:00 p.m.

August 1 will have extended zoo hours and programing for Evening Zoo as well. The zoo will be open past normal hours until 8:30 p.m.

Evening Zoo events include:

  • Interactions with our animal ambassadors
  • Music and games on north meadow
  • Beer and wine garden
  • Zoomazium play area for kids

Rex, stretch like the tall brachiosaurus and learn more about all of your favorite prehistoric creatures at Dinosaur Discovery!

And who knows... you might find out that some of your zoo favorites share some very prehistoric relatives! Emus... meet theropods!
