Wild Wise helps students learn about Washington habitats, animal characteristics
and scientific observation while building critical thinking skills through engaging
and attention getting presentations and field experiences. During the Wild Wise
program, students explore Washington wildlife and habitats through an exciting

Wild Wise Outdoor Explorations, zoo naturalists lead students through outdoor
activities to help students hone their newly learned scientific observation skills.

Wild Wise Programs
Zoo naturalists will visit your classroom and present an engaging
and informative program that your students will love and talk
about for weeks. The students have a chance to virtually explore
up to six diverse habitats in Washington and learn naturalists’ skills
such as map reading, scientific observation, field sketching,
and species identification. Wild Wise programs are designed to
help your students meet state standards.
“ I
especially appreciate the work you have done to link the
program to the science standards (GLE’s) since those
are driving our lessons (or at least should be!)” -
Linda McCalmant, Amistad Elementary School.
|
Each
student will also receive a free “Rite in the Rain” notebook
with special water-resistant paper, just like professional
field biologist use. Those rainy days will no longer keep your
students
from exploring, learning and recording their observations in
the outdoors!
Wild
Wise Outdoor Exploration!
Wild Wise Outdoor explorations are a great way to extend classroom
learning beyond the school walls and give students an opportunity
for hands-on practice with the skills introduced during the
indoor program. Outdoor Explorations may include anything from
learning
to use binoculars, a compass or GPS while doing a scavenger
hunt, to using all the senses to explore a local habitat and
document
observations using scientific field notes and journaling.
| Outdoor
Explorations can take place at your schoolyard, a state park
or any nearby open space. Wild Wise Outdoor Explorations
are custom designed to meet your available time and transportation
resources. Whatever works to get your students outside, exploring
and learning! |
