Back for its 18th year, moms and families enjoy plenty of games, face painting,
live entertainment, arts and crafts, and more in the zoo’s North
Meadow. Your T-shirt is your ticket into the zoo – just pick up a
Mom & Me
T-shirt for everyone in your family at any Western Washington Macy's Kids
Department. Proceeds benefit the zoo. Memberships do not apply – all

11 Mother's Day Brunch at the Zoo, 9:00-11:00 a.m.
Surprise mom with a lovely brunch complete with complimentary sparkling
cider and a wild zoo visit. Begin her day at the zoo’s Rain Forest
Food Pavilion nibbling on a delightful brunch spread featuring fruits,
pastries, an omelet
station, cheese and berry blintzes, potatoes, breakfast meats, a dessert
buffet, and an up-close encounter with one of the zoo’s magnificent
raptors. New this year is a complimentary flower seed packet for mom!

17 Festival for the Birds, 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
In celebration of International Migratory Bird Day, Woodland Park
Zoo’s
Festival for the Birds pays tribute to the world’s migratory bird species.
Flock to the Family Farm and enjoy a variety of activities and bird demonstrations
to help you rediscover some of the wildlife in your own backyard. Activities

17 Early Morning Bird Walk, 6:45 a.m.
Each spring, migratory birds arrive in the Pacific Northwest from Central
and South America to reproduce. Celebrate the return of these long
distance travelers with the zoo’s Early Morning Bird Walk to
learn more about these magnificent migrators and discover how you can
help. Visit
special displays, sample shade-grown coffee, observe bird-banding demonstrations
and play “Bird Bingo” with the kids! Zoo staff lead small
groups around the zoo, with emphasis on trying to locate some of our
migrant birds. Children and all level of birders are welcome. Meet
at the zoo’s South Entrance located at N. 50th St. and Phinney
Ave. N. The walk should last approximately two hours. Please bring
binoculars
and weather-appropriate clothing. Space is limited to first 50 people

22 Northwest Wines in the Northern Trail, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
You’ll be swept away to the rugged and majestic habitat of brown
bears and river otters as you sample Northwest wines, cedar plank
skewers and mini-Washington apple pies in the zoo’s signature
Northern Trail exhibit. An up-close animal encounter or keeper talk
also awaits
you. Reservations required. Cost: $40.00 per person, includes tax
and service charge. Must be 21 years old with valid ID. Free parking.

24 ***NEW *** Flamingos at Woodland Park Zoo, presented
by The Boeing Company
Join in on the zoo’s “flamingo flocking” as these
gregarious, long-legged and long-necked birds tickle you pink. The
pink-feathered
birds, Chilean flamingos, will make their debut in a new exhibit
on May 24. The exhibit will feature several interactive features to
engage children
in play and learning: three life-size representations of Chilean
flamingo nests at the end of a toddler-sized path; child-proof eggs
that look
every bit as authentic as the real thing; and a bas-relief sculpture
of a flamingo head where visitors can touch a simulated filtering
structure that demonstrates how flamingos eat. Learning stations, staffed
by Zoo
Corps teens, will include several hands-on activities that highlight
natural behaviors of flamingos. Free with zoo admission.

23 -September 30 Butterflies & Blooms Reopening
Back for its 11th year, this serene experience treats visitors
to a vibrant display of nearly 1,000 free-flying butterflies
representing 35-50 North American
species, a colorful explosion of flowering plants in bloom and an outdoor
conservation garden. Free with zoo admission.

5 Wine Tasting at New Flamingo Exhibit, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Sip on Chilean wines while sampling South American hors d’oeuvres
at the zoo’s new flamingo exhibit. You’ll be tickled pink
in the presence of these gregarious, long-legged birds. An up-close

It’s the 25th anniversary for the ever-popular summer concert
series that continues to offer the best concert bargain in the Pacific
Northwest.
Pop and singer-songwriter artists perform outdoors in the zoo’s
North Meadow with festival seating. Blankets, low-backed chairs and
picnic baskets

It’s a Fourth of July picnic as Woodland Park Zoo’s animals –orangutans,
jaguars, hippos, pigs and more – are treated to star-shaped
popsicles, watermelons or corn on the cob in celebration of Red,
White & Zoo. Hear
zookeepers talk about how treats and other activities are part
of the zoo’s
ongoing enrichment program to help enrich the lives of the zoo’s
animals, promote natural animal behavior, keep animals mentally
stimulated and engage

11 Woodland Park Zoo's Bank of America presents: 32nd Annual Jungle
Party,
4:30-10:00
p.m. (Zoo closes early at 3:00 p.m.)
It’s Woodland Park Zoo's 32nd Annual Jungle Party! Held on the
zoo’s
North Meadow, the evening's festivities include the opportunity
to bid on several hundred exciting auction items and experiences, live
entertainment, up-close
animal experiences for patron guests, a gourmet sit-down dinner
and open bars. More than 1,000 of the Northwest's civic and philanthropic
leaders attend Jungle
Party each summer, which raised more than $2 million last year.
The fundraising auction and dinner supports the zoo's animal care,
conservation and education

6, 7 Back to School Enrichment for the Animals,
10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
As kids return to school, Woodland Park Zoo’s animals
receive back to school-themed treats. Orangutans, bears,
gorillas, pigs and more receive sack
lunches, textbooks and more. Additionally, the elephant
and raptor keepers demonstrate some of the operant training
techniques they use to teach their animals new behaviors. The special
treats are part of the zookeepers’ ongoing efforts to help enrich
the lives of the zoo’s animals, promote natural animal
behavior, keep animals mentally stimulated and engage zoo
visitors. Free with zoo admission.
