American Association of Zoo Keepers Annual Silent Auction – Up-close animal encounters among auction items

What:       
The Puget Sound Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) holds its annual silent auction in time for the holiday season. Bid on a variety of interesting and one-of-a-kind items from around the world, including opportunities to meet zoo animals behind the scenes such as: orangutans, jaguars, sloth bears, tapirs, raptors and more. Plus, don’t miss the debut of The Cookbook Keepers: Recipes from Friends & Staff of Woodland Park Zoo! It’s filled with favorite recipes by zoo staff including fare for the animals they care for.
 
Proceeds help fund the 2009 American Association of Zoo Keepers/International Congress of Zookeepers (AAZK/ICZ) conference, which is being hosted by Woodland Park Zoo and the Puget Sound Chapter of AAZK. These two organizations provide education, outreach, and training for zookeepers locally and around the world to ensure top-notch care for the animals in their care.

When:  
Friday, November 30
Guaranteed bids and bake sale: noon-2:00 p.m.
Silent auction and some hot food items: 4:00-8:00 p.m.
Bid closings: 5:30, 6:15 and 7:00 p.m.

Where:  
Woodland Park Zoo Education Center near the South Entrance at N. 50th St. & Fremont Ave. N. Free parking after 4:00 p.m.

Cost:  
Free. Entry to the auction does not require zoo admission fee.

Zoo winter hours: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. Admission: Adult (13-64) $10.50; Child (3-12) $7.50; Toddler (0-2) Free. Seniors and disabled receive a discount and zoo members receive free zoo admission year-round. Parking: $4.00. Call Metro at 206.553.3000 for bus service to the zoo.
