SEATTLE - Woodland Park Zoo is going smoke-free. The new policy goes into effect November 1 and bans smoking on the zoo’s grounds. Smoking already was prohibited in zoo buildings and near animal exhibits.

“ Providing a quality experience for our visitors is a priority for the zoo and smoking on grounds has recently been the number one complaint,” said Woodland Park Zoo President and CEO Dr. Deborah Jensen. “Given the statewide public smoking ban in public areas and work places, we expect a positive reaction from the majority of our one million-plus visitors each year.”

Fall/winter hours for the zoo are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily through April 30. Admission is: Adult (13-64) $10.50; Child (3-12) $7.50; and age 2 and under free. The zoo is open every day except December 25.

For more information and how to become a zoo member, call 206.684.4800 or 684.4026 (TTY), or visit the zoo’s Web site at www.zoo.org.
