Back-to-School treats for zoo animals

What:       
Woodland Park Zoo’s animals will receive back-to-school-themed treats. Orangutans, bears, gorillas, pigs and more will receive sack lunches, textbooks and more. Additionally, the elephant and raptor keepers will demonstrate some of the operant training techniques they use to teach their animals new behaviors.

The special treats are part of the zookeepers’ ongoing efforts to help enrich the lives of the zoo’s animals, promote natural animal behavior, keep animals mentally stimulated and provide added enjoyment for zoo visitors.

Saturday & Sunday, September 8 & 9, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Keas 10:00 a.m. – Willawong Station
Orangutans 11:00 a.m. – Trail of Vines
Patas monkeys 11:30 a.m. – African Savanna
Anoas noon (Saturday only) – North of the Raptor Center
Pigs 1:00 p.m. – Family Farm
Gorillas 1:30 p.m. – Tropical Rain Forest
Elephants 2:00 p.m. – Elephant Barn or Pool
Raptors 2:30 p.m. – Raptor Center
Grizzly bears and otters 3:00 p.m. – Taiga Viewing Shelter, Northern Trail

Woodland Park Zoo, 601 N. 59th St. Entries: South Entrance at N. 50th St. & Fremont Ave. N. or West Entrance at N. 55th St. & Phinney Ave. N.

Summer hours: 9:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. daily.

Admission: May 1 - September 30: Adult (13-64) $15; Child (3-12) $10. October 1-April 30: Adult (13-64) $10.50; Child (3-12) $7.50. Free for children 2 and under year round. Seniors and people with disabilities receive a discount and zoo members receive free zoo admission year round.

Parking: $4.00
