Woodland Park Zoo has had a special connection with snow leopards since 1972, when the zoo’s first leopards arrived from the USSR. The Snow Leopard Trust was created by former Woodland Park Zoo staff member Helen Freeman in 1981. Since then, the Trust has been protecting the snow leopard and its mountain habitat through successful community-led conservation programs, such as Snow Leopard Enterprises. With programs and staff in key range countries, a global network of researchers and partnerships with local communities in the cats’ habitat, the Snow Leopard Trust is leading the effort to ensure the mountains will shelter these cats for years to come.

Accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, award-winning Woodland Park Zoo is famed for pioneering naturalistic exhibits and setting a standard for zoos all over the world. With conservation, education and excellent animal care at the core of the zoo’s mission, the zoo is helping to save endangered species in Washington state and around the world including tree kangaroos, snow leopards, red-crowned cranes, African wild dogs, western pond turtles and Oregon silverspot butterflies. By inspiring visitors and others to care and act, Woodland Park Zoo is making a difference in our planet’s future.
