What:
Woodland Park Zoo will host a final parking garage design open house to provide zoo neighbors, members, the community, and visitors an opportunity to give input on design of the new west parking garage at the zoo. Participants will have the chance to meet with zoo staff, consultants, and representatives of KPFF Consulting Engineers and Hewitt Architects, the team heading up the garage design. Coffee and tea will be served.

This is the final open house, and will present the detailed design phase of the project. The design at the open house incorporates input from a wide variety of project stakeholders, including input gathered during public design workshops held in January and February, along with design open houses in April and May. At these four events, the community was invited to weigh in on design issues for the zoo’s planned parking garage, from aesthetics and operations to traffic access and safety.

Zoo staff and the design team look forward to additional community input at the open house to help guide the completion of the design process.

When:
Tuesday, September 19, 5:00 -8:00 p.m
.

Where:
The Education Center at Woodland Park Zoo is located near the South Entrance at N. 50th St. & Fremont Ave. N., Free parking.

The planned parking garage is a major component of the zoo’s planned solution to the current traffic and parking problems caused by insufficient parking on zoo grounds. The parking garage will displace the current employee surface lot and administrative offices in the northwest part of the zoo, providing approximately 710 visitor parking spaces and increasing the zoo total to approximately 1,360. It will be a three-story, four-level garage, with one level partially buried and three levels above grade.

Accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, award-winning Woodland Park Zoo is famed for pioneering naturalistic exhibits and setting a standard for zoos all over the world. With conservation, education and excellent animal care at the core of the zoo’s mission, the zoo is helping to save endangered species in Washington state and around the world including tree kangaroos, snow leopards, red-crowned cranes, African wild dogs, western pond turtles and Oregon silverspot butterflies. By inspiring visitors and others to care and act, Woodland Park Zoo is making a difference in our planet’s future.
