What:
Why do giraffes have black tongues? What special techniques do keepers use to train or handle dangerous animals? Why do animals get physical check-ups? Get the inside scoop on what it takes to care for the more than 1,000 animals at Woodland Park Zoo through the new Eye-to-Eye tours. Go behind the scenes in the zoo’s award-winning exhibits and experience the other side of the zoo æ from poison dart frogs to hippopotamuses æ and meet the dedicated people who care for the animals.

Opportunities may include learning about the many challenges and rewards of animal management, hearing about year-round animal care, watching diet preparations, encountering animals up close and personal, and getting answers to the mysteries of zookeeping.

Eye-to-Eye is available for adults and children 8 years and older; individual attendees must be at least 18 years old. .

When:
Eye-to-Eye tours are offered several Saturdays and Sundays beginning Saturday, June 12, 2004 and continue through October 24, 2004.

Tropical Rain Forest: Wet and Wild, 12:45-2:15 p.m., June 12, August 7, October 2

Day and Night Exhibits: Out from the Shadows, 10:30 a.m.-noon, June 13, August 14, October 16

Savanna Safari: Sticking Your Neck Out, 1:00-2:30 p.m., July 31, September 18

Along the Northern Trail: A Journey of Survival, 1:00-2:30 p.m., July 17, August 29

Animal Health Department and Commissary: Doctors and Diets, 1:00-2:30 p.m., July 25, September 26, October 24

Where:
Woodland Park Zoo, 601 N. 59th St., Seattle.

Cost:
$45 per person for Woodland Park Zoo members; $55 per person for nonmembers.
