Seattle: The public is invited to be a part of Woodland Park Zoo’s exciting new spider exhibit, Masters of the Web, presented by Washington Mutual, by entering a Spider Photo Contest. Open to all ages, the contest begins March 1 and runs through midnight April 30. Simply submit a photo of a spectacular spider or wonderful web and you may see your photo on display in the exhibit and on the zoo’s Web site!

Entrants may submit photos of any spider and/or its web, or spiders on webs. Entries will be judged on originality and artistic merit. For a complete set of rules and entry form, visit the Spider Photo Contest page on the zoo's Web site beginning March 1, or ask for contest rules at any zoo gate beginning March 1. Categories are:

  • Ages up to 12 years
  • 13 to 19 years
  • 20 years plus (amateur)
  • 20 years plus (professional)

Masters of the Web is a temporary exhibit opening Saturday, May 29 and running through October 31, 2004. Discover the amazing traits of a variety of exotic and local spiders: the mystery of web building and silk weaving, how spiders hunt and kill prey, which spiders are dangerous and which ones aren’t. Also enjoy a variety of interactive and fun family experiences.

For more information about the Spider Photo Contest and Masters of the Web, check out Woodland Park Zoo’s Web site at www.zoo.org. For general zoo information, log on the zoo’s Web site or call 206-684-4800.
