What:
What’s cuter than a kid with a popsicle on a hot summer day? Elephant Hansa with a popsicle on a hot summer day! In this summer of record-breaking soaring temperatures, zookeepers have been both creative and diligent in finding ways to keep the animals cool. Media are invited to watch as the zoo’s grizzly bears and elephants tear into summer treats.

The elephants will beat the heat with fruity ice blocks made out of apple juice, orange juice, oranges, bananas and apples. The zoo’s grizzly bear brothers will tackle a 3-layer, 800-pound bloodsicle made out of honey water with bananas, followed by a second layer of smelt and tuna fish, topped off by 4-5 cups of beef blood mixed with 50 gallons of water and unfeathered chickens.

When:
Thursday, August 28
Elephants: 10:45 a.m.
Grizzlies: 11:15 a.m.

Where:
Enter the zoo through the ARC near the West Gate at N. 55th St. & Phinney Ave. N. Staff will escort you to the elephant and grizzly bear exhibits.
