Zoo’s Draft Revised Environmental Impact Statement on the Long-Range Physical Development Plan available for public review

What:
Beginning Wednesday, July 16, 2003, the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation, acting as the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) lead agency, is issuing the Draft Revised Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on a proposed long-range plan for Woodland Park Zoo, referred to as the Long-Range Physical Development Plan 2002 (LRPDP 2002). LRPDP 2002 amends the original 1976 long-range plan for the zoo, last amended in 1987.

To ensure a response in the Final Revised EIS, written comments on the Draft Revised EIS must be received by August 15, 2003. Comments may be submitted electronically, accessible from the zoo’s Web home page at www.zoo.org or sent to the lead agency contact person:

An open house and public hearing to receive comments on the Draft Revised EIS will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2003, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Woodland Park Zoo’s Education Center, at the South Gate at N. 50th St. & Fremont Ave. N.

How:
The Draft Revised EIS consists of two volumes: Volume 1: EIS Summary and Text and Volume 2: Appendices. Copies of the Draft Revised EIS and Draft LRPDP 2002 may be reviewed or purchased after July 16 at the zoo administrative office at Building No. 1, 601 N. 59th Street, Seattle, WA, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The cost for copies purchased at the zoo administrative office is $20.00 for Volume 1 of the Draft Revised EIS, $7.00 for Volume 2, and $15.00 for Draft LRPDP 2002. Copies may also be ordered by calling 206.615.1030. An additional $5.00 per order will be charged for handling and mailing phone orders.

Beginning July 16, the Draft Revised EIS and Draft LRPDP 2002 are also available for review at the Greenwood, Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford, and Downtown branches of the Seattle Public Library; and at the City’s Ballard, Fremont, and Greenwood neighborhood service centers.

In addition, the Fact Sheet, Table of Contents, and Summary of the Draft Revised EIS, as well as an overview of LRPDP 2002 prepared by the zoo, are available for review beginning July 16 on the zoo’s Web site at www.zoo.org.
