What:
No birthday cake, candles or hats for tigers…Instead, Woodland Park Zoo’s female Sumatran tiger cubs, Jaya (jie-yah) and Suriya (soo-ree-ya), will celebrate their first birthday by tearing into and playing with papier mache animals! Third grade students and parents from West Woodland Elementary pitched in to make the paper treats for the tigers. The goodies are part of the zookeepers’ ongoing efforts to help enrich the lives of the zoo’s wildlife residents and to provide enjoyment for zoo visitors.

The tigers represent the first litter between the 11-year-old mother and 10-year-old father, and the first of the endangered species born at the zoo in a decade. The cubs currently weigh more than 150 pounds each. The tigers are on view daily at the zoo’s tiger grotto..

When:
Tuesday, December 23, 10:30 a.m.

Where:
Enter the zoo through the ARC near the West Gate at N. 55th St. & Phinney Ave. N. You may proceed to the tiger grotto or staff will escort you.

Other:
The paper treats are also a preview for Woodland Park Zoo’s winter celebration: Friday-Sunday, December 26-28 and January 2-4.
