The 12-day adventure begins in Quito, South America’s oldest capital. Enjoy a city tour and a visit to the world famous Otavalo Market, an important Inca trading center dating back to ancient times. During the 8-day cruise, you’ll visit several islands in the Galapagos archipelago. On daily shore excursions you’ll explore the islands’ diverse habitats. Here you will encounter many of the islands’ inhabitants including: marine iguana, lava lizard, and the giant tortoise, symbol of the Galapagos. Birding on the islands is spectacular! The islands support populations of Darwin’s finch, giant frigate birds, red-and-blue-footed booby and giant waved albatross. Snorkel in protected bays with playful sea lions and curious penguins. Local naturalists and your zoo escort will present evening lectures where you will learn about this unique marine environment and its geological history. Also, visit the Charles Darwin Research Center for a behind-the-scenes tour to learn about conservation efforts to save endangered tortoises. Cost: Cabin pricing begins at $4,895 per person, less $400 for children 13 and under sharing with a parent. Includes round-trip airfare from Seattle.
