SEATTLE - Singer/songwriter Randy Newman will headline a Woodland Park Zoo concert at Washington Mutual ZooTunes summer concert series! After 16 Academy Award nominations, Newman won a much-deserved Oscar in the Original Song category for Disney's MONSTERS, INC. last night. Newman also performed the award winning song, "If I didn't have you," with one of the movie's stars, John Goodman.

Newman will make his concert debut at the zoo on Wednesday, July 24. Further details about his solo performance and other ZooTunes concerts this summer will be announced as the 2002 concert series approaches.

Newman is one of the most sardonic, iconoclastic, musically adept and stylistically diverse singer/songwriters in the industry. As a composer he has been compared to George Gershwin and Kurt Weill, and his movie soundtrack work has now earned him 16 Oscar nominations and one Oscar! He developed an idiosyncratic style that alternated between sweeping, cinematic pop and rolling R&B, which were tied together by his sense of humor. While Newman's albums consistently receive strongly positive reviews, he is mostly known for his film scores.

The Washington Mutual ZooTunes full concert line-up will be announced in early May. Tickets will go on sale June 1 and will be sold at all PCC Natural Markets (with a $2 service fee added). Limited tickets will be available at Woodland Park Zoo as well. Call the concert hotline at 206.615.0076 for up-to-date ZooTunes information.
