WHAT: Woodland Park Zoo’s seasonal exhibit, Butterflies & Blooms, is going to be a-flutter with more than its colorful array of North American butterflies. It’s going to be buzzing with a myriad of excited children masquerading as their favorite butterflies. Media are invited to photograph a butterfly costume contest and parade, a part of the Butterflies & Blooms reopening celebration, sponsored by KZOK FM.

The contest winner will receive a trip for two to Monterey, California, where monarch butterflies return each year, and a family membership to Woodland Park Zoo. The Monterey trip is courtesy of Bloodhound Travel.

WHEN: Sunday, May 23, noon to 2:00 p.m.
Judging and "Butterflies on Parade": 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.

WHERE: Butterflies & Blooms exhibit in the zoo’s North Meadow. Judging takes place in the exhibit’s outdoor Conservation Garden. Please enter through the North Gate at N. 59th St. & Phinney Ave. N.

OTHER: Back for its second year, Butterflies & Blooms reopens May 21 through September 30. From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, the exhibit offers nearly 1,000 butterflies in flight, representing at least 15 North American species; an opportunity to discover each of four distinct life stages of a butterfly; and an outdoor Conservation Garden to demonstrate how to attract wild butterflies to your own backyard.

In addition to zoo admission, Butterflies & Blooms costs $1 per person; 2 and under are free.
