SEATTLE - Aahh…you can smell it in the air – it’s time for Woodland Park Zoo’s annual Spring Fecal Fest, your chance to buy a load of that rich, multi-species feces known as Zoo Doo. The Spring Fecal Fest begins Friday, March 12, at 8:00 a.m. This is the one day to call 625-POOP and place your order for the exotic, 100% organic compost hailed by gardeners everywhere as pure black gold.

Ollie McIntyre, the zoo’s newest Prince of Poo, expects the usual high demand for the ever-poopular Zoo Doo, which traditionally sells out quickly. He’s been trying to sweet-talk the animals into stepping up production, but they seem…unmoved. Nevertheless, Dr. Doo reports a monolithic mountain of manure to unload, and he’ll accommodate all the customers that supplies allow. The reigning Shaka of Kaka will phone all the lucky ones to confirm pick-up dates, which run April 3-18. Both weekend and weekday appointments are available.

Prices for pick-up trucks are: 8x4 bed $50; 6x4 bed $40; 6x3 bed $35. Garbage cans are $5 to $8, and bags $2 to $5 depending on size. Limit one full truck per person. Novelty sizes are also available in the ZooStore, along with Zoo Doo T-shirts.

Zoo Doo is handcrafted by Dr. Doo, who counts on all of the zoo’s non-primate herbivores for his – how shall we say – raw materials. Zebras, giraffes and many other exotic animals contribute, but none as much as the prolific elephants, who each put forth some 40 to 45 tons per year of their piquant pachyderm poop. The finished Zoo Doo is perfect for nearly all types of gardening. It is thoroughly composted and completely safe to handle.
