What's New?

Otter family growing: four pups born!

First photo of the otter pups taken by zookeeper Pam Cox.

Otter family off view until August while raising pups

Our pair of Asian small-clawed otters has already given birth to a litter of pups—just one month after debuting in the new Bamboo Forest Reserve exhibit!

Since both parents play a role in rearing pups, the family is off-view together in a behind-the-scenes nest where mom nurses as dad stands watch. As the pups grow bigger and more coordinated, we hope to see the family back out on exhibit later this summer.

We thank you for your patience while the otters remain off-view, and hope you still come out to enjoy the tropical aviary and children’s play area at the Bamboo Forest Reserve.

Grand Opening: Bamboo Forest Reserve Phase One

May 4, 2013, 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Celebrate with us as we officially debut phase one of the Bamboo Forest Reserve exhibit complex, made possible with your support! Visit squealing Asian small-clawed otters, a sonorous tropical aviary, and a kids' nature play area, all bringing to life the sounds, smells and sights of the Asian tropical forest. Plus, on opening day, catch the debut of the zoo's sloth bear twins as part of the festivities!

Sloth bear birth: It's twins!

First-time sloth bear mom Tasha gave birth to twins on December 18, 2012. Mom and cubs make their official debut on May 4. You can help us build them a new home in the Bamboo Forest Reserve. To help us complete the new sloth bear exhibit, make your gift today.
