Buying or Renewing Your Membership

1. I have a nanny, what’s the best membership for me?

When you purchase an Annual Pass membership, you can add up to two flexible guests. Flexible guests can be a different person every visit, and they can bring the children since flex guests don't need to be accompanied by a member. We strongly advise not adding your nanny as a named adult on your membership because nannies may come and go, and membership is non-transferable.

2. Can I buy a combined zoo and aquarium membership?

The zoo and aquarium no longer offer a combined membership. You may purchase Seattle Aquarium membership at seattleaquarium.org or at the aquarium.

3. Are there any membership discounts?

If you are not a member, you can apply the portion of your admission receipt that will be covered by the membership toward the cost of purchasing a membership (valid on day of receipt at an entry ticket window only).

Microsoft, Boeing and Seattle Children's employees can receive $10 off their total membership purchase. This discount is only available to Microsoft and Boeing staff purchasing in person at either zoo entrance, since Microsoft employees will be asked to show proof of current employment (i.e. Microsoft badge or business card) and Boeing employees must show their Discount Program card. Seattle Children's staff can access this offer online only, with a promo code disctributed by their own organization's HR department.

College or university students 18 years of age and older are eligible for a discount on adult membership. Active students may bring their school ID to either membership office to purchase a membership for $35. This discount cannot be applied online, over the phone or by mail.

4. Do Microsoft or Boeing employees receive a discount?

Microsoft and Boeing employees also receive a $10 discount off their total membership purchase. This discount is only available at either zoo entry. Microsoft employees will be asked to show proof of current employment (e.g. Microsoft badge or business card); Boeing employees must show their Discount Program card.

5. Do members receive discounts on ZooTunes concert tickets?

Because ZooTunes concerts are a fundraiser for the zoo, members do not receive discounts or priority purchasing for ZooTunes tickets. However, members do get access to ticket purchases online a couple days before the general public ticket sale. Members can also enter the zoo before 5:00 p.m. on concert days and join one of the inside lines up until 5:00 p.m. or slightly earlier due to security reasons. Please arrive prior to 4:30 p.m. to ensure that you have time to park your car and enter before the line closes.

6. Is membership tax-deductible?

Woodland Park Zoo is a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, #91-6070005, registered in Washington state. The amount of your gift that is deductible for federal income tax purposes is the amount given, less the fair market value of benefits you receive, whether used or not. Woodland Park Zoo determines the benefit of unlimited entry to the zoo to be the full cost of the membership. However, IRS rules allow taxpayers to claim a charitable deduction only if the total membership fees paid is $75.00 or less. Any membership that totals $75.01 or more is not deductible at all. Please consult with your advisor to determine the potential deductibility of your membership.

A corporate membership is eligible for a charitable deduction for income tax purposes less than the fair market value of the benefits you receive, whether used or not. Please click here to see the value of benefits at each corporate membership level. 

7. Do I need to include a child age 2 or under on my membership?

Children under the age of 2 are always free at the zoo. You do not need to include your child on your membership if he/she is age 2 or under. If your child turns 3 years old before your membership expires, you may add on a child to your membership at any time.

8. What happens if I renew before my current membership has expired?

When you renew before your current membership has expired, we simply add a year to your current expiration date. You will not be penalized for renewing early.

 

Coming to the Zoo

1. How do I bring a guest with me to the zoo?

Annual Pass members may bring two guests per named adult member per visit at half the admission price (adult member must be present). Guests must accompany a named adult member to receive the discount. Discovery Passport members may bring up to five half-price guests per household membership (not per member) on each visit.

Some memberships also include guest passes. Guests may use these passes without the member being present. Guests do need to have the guest pass in their possession to be redeemed upon entry.

 

2. How can my nanny or guest bring my children to the zoo without me?

Add a flex guest or two to your Annual Pass or Discovery Passport membership. The nanny, or any other adult, can bring your children to the zoo without an adult member as a flex guest. Flexible guests do not have to be accompanied by a member. We strongly advise not naming your nanny on a membership because nannies can sometimes come and go, and membership is non-transferable.

 

3. When will I receive my membership cards?

Pick up your membership card at any zoo entry. To save natural resources, we no longer mail membership cards. When you join or renew, come pick up your new membership cards on your next visit to the zoo. Just stop by the membership office at either entry. Your new photo card will allow you to bypass the ticketing windows and practically walk right in! Note your membership begins at time of purchase, not when the cards are picked up.

 

4. Can I visit the zoo before I pick up my membership card?

YES! Just bring a copy of your photo ID and your online confirmation printout or purchase receipt as proof of membership. If you renewed through the mail, your membership may be accessible by our gate staff in approximately one week or less. Bring your photo ID and we will be happy to look you up.

 

5. I’ve lost my membership card, what should I do?

You can order a new membership card the next time you visit the zoo or by calling the membership office at 206.548.2400. There is a $5 processing fee for replacement membership cards.

 

6. Do members pay for parking?

Due to rising costs, free parking for members is no longer available. Parking is $5.25 for cars and $15.75 for RVs, buses and other oversized vehicles year-round. (Please visit our parking page. Fees may change without notice.)

 

7. Can I use my membership at other zoos and aquariums?

You can use your membership for half-priced entry at more than 150 reciprocal zoos and aquariums across the country. Remember, each institution has their own policies and your membership privileges may not work the same way at each zoo. Please contact the institution you are visiting prior to arrival for specific details and to make sure there have been no changes. (See a complete list of reciprocal zoos and aquariums.)

 

8. How do I receive my guest passes?

If you have a Discovery Passport membership, you will receive your guest passes at the entry when you pick up your membership cards. Annual Pass members do not receive guest passes.

 

Gift Membership

1. Can I purchase a gift membership?

You can purchase either a gift membership or a gift card. Since we no longer mail membership cards, the recipient can pick up their membership card during their next visit. Note that the membership begins at time of purchase, not when membership card(s) are picked up. If you'd like your recipient to be able to choose when their membership begins, we suggest giving a gift card in the amount of the membership. Then their membership will start when the gift card is applied to a membership purchase at either zoo entry. The gift card can be mailed to you or the recipient.

2. Should I buy a gift membership or gift card?

You can either purchase a gift membership or a gift card. If you wish to give a membership to the recipient personally, a gift card in the amount of a membership is the perfect gift and can be mailed to you or the recipient. If you wish to renew someone's membership, then a gift membership option is easy and convenient. You can purchase either here.

 

3. How do I redeem my gift card?

Gift cards are redeemable for membership at the zoo or through the mail (please do not mail the physical card to the zoo). If any value is left on your gift card after your membership purchase, you are welcome to use the remainder at either ZooStore, on ZooParent animal adoptions or for carousel rides and parking. Plus, your gift card can be reloaded over and over again!

 

4. How do I redeem my gift certificate?

Just bring your paper gift certificate to any zoo entry on your first visit. Simply fill out the bottom portion of the certificate with your membership information and you will receive a comparable Annual Pass or Discovery Passport membership to the one shown on the gift certificate. Keep the top portion of the certificate as a temporary membership card.

Please note that gift certificates are different than gift cards. Gift cards have a cash value associated with them and may be redeemed for a membership at any time at the zoo or through the mail. Gift certificates (issued until late 2008) are paper and redeemable for the comparable membership level purchased (indicated on the paper gift certificate).

5. What if I'm renewing a gift membership?

Always select "Gift Membership" (never "Renew") when purchasing a membership for someone else, even if they've had a membership before. We will search our database for your gift recipient's name and address and attach your gift purchase to their existing record, if they have one. If their membership is still active, your gift will extend their current expiration date out another full year. If their membership already expired, your gift will add a full year of membership from the date of purchase.

6. Do I need to have my gift recipient's membership account information in order to renew their membership?

No. Accounts are intended for use by the member only. As long as you have your recipient's name and address as it is in our database, we will be able to link your gift to their existing account.

7. Do I have to create an account to purchase a gift membership?

No. If you're purchasing a gift membership for someone else, purchase as a guest - trust us, it's easier!

 

 

General Questions

1. When does my membership expire?

Please contact us if you'd like to know your expiration date, or stop by the membership office at either entry. 

 

2. How can I change my address?

To change your mailing address or other contact information, or to find out your expiration date, email membership customer service or call 206.548.2400. 

 

3. Can a name on my membership be changed?

Woodland Park Zoo membership is non-transferable. Name changes can be made only when you renew your membership. You may renew your membership at any time and not lose any time on your membership. You also have the option of adding another adult (for a maximum of three) or a flexible guest or two to your membership if you would prefer not to renew early.

 

All membership purchases are final and membership cards and associated privileges are non-transferable. No refunds will be issued for any reason including non-use. Memberships start at time of purchase, not when member cards are picked up. Your expiration date will be a year from the purchase date, or if you are renewing early, a year will be added to your current expiration date. For the enjoyment of all guests, Woodland Park Zoo may refuse admission, control occupancy, or expel any person whose conduct endangers or disrupts patrons, animals or others.
