Asian Wildlife Conservation Day

Asian Wildlife Conservation Day illustrates how the zoo’s partnerships are helping to save the endangered wildlife of Asia and bringing life sustaining commerce to indigenous families throughout Asia. 

Learn more about logging and palm oil, and how your choices and actions can help to save orangutans, Asian elephants, hornbills, tree kangaroos and other endangered animals. The day is filled with activities including keeper talks, face painting, crafts and more. 

 

Schedule of activities

10:00 – 3:00 | Mongolian village children’s festival & passport redemption – North Meadow

10:30 | Keeper/Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program Q&A at Day Exhibit

11:00 & 1:30 | Keeper talks with enrichment – Orangutans

11:30 & 2:00 | Keeper/Snow Leopard Trust talk at exhibit

11:30 & 2:00 | Keeper talks – Hornbills

11:30 | Keeper talk – Elephants

1:00 | Keeper talk – Red Crowned Cranes

1:00 – 3:00 | Elephant poo paper-making: African Village

1:30 – 2:30 | Elephant feeding experience (extra fee)

3:00 | Red panda keeper talk with animal enrichment                    

 

Throughout the day

  • Get your passport: Kids will receive passport at the gate and receive a stamp for each talk/activity they attend. Head to the North Meadow to receive a prize at the end!

  • Demonstrations at the Orangutan Exhibit: See how orangutans are trained to take part in their own health exams, explore orangutan natural history with crafts and a Discovery Cart, plus learn how consumer choices affect orangutan conservation with palm oil information.

  • Demonstrations on the North Meadow: Games for all ages will test your skills--from archery to using binoculars. PLUS: Look for felting crafts, Conservation Commerce, Snow Leopard Trust exhibit, and more. 

     

Fees: Free with zoo admission or membership.
