Disabled Accessibility
Many accessibility laws have helped increase accessibility at zoos and aquariums. Laws such as the Architectural Barriers Act of 1968 required zoos receiving federal money to remove barriers so that individuals with disabilities could avail themselves of the zoo. Accessibility to both zoos and aquariums has increased even more thanks to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA is a civil rights law for people with disabilities. Its basic intent is to eliminate discrimination against a person with a disability. One of the specific provisions of the ADA is to insure that public accommodations are accessible and zoos are listed as one example of accommodations required to be accessible.
-
Woodland Park Zoo accommodates individuals with disabilities who wish to attend our ZooTunes concerts. Woodland Park Zoo also participates in the Mayor's Gold and Flash Card programs that offer individuals with disabilities admission discounts.
-
Non-electric wheelchairs and personal electric carts are available for rental (see details above).
-
Disabled parking spaces are available at each of the zoo's parking lots at our North (N. 59th and Evanston), West (5500 Phinney Ave and N. 55th) and South (N. 50th and Fremont Ave. North) entrances. An official state-issued disabled parking permit must be visible on your vehicle. Vehicles with a valid disabled parking permit do NOT need to pay for parking.
-
Accessible restrooms and drinking fountains are located throughout the zoo grounds.
-
Download the Accessibility Brochure for a map with details of conditions and amenities around the grounds.
