Digital Photography Intern

Applications are now being accepted for the digital photography internship at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, WA. There is one unpaid position to be filled for Spring 2008, and one unpaid position to be filled for Summer 2008. Spring and Summer session dates are flexible based upon the applicant’s schedule and the needs of the zoo.

Summary:
The digital photography intern will help supplement and maintain the zoo’s photo collection and perform other post-production activities. There will be frequent opportunities for the intern to shoot assignments, assist the zoo’s photographer, work on a longer-term project, and submit their work for publication at the zoo. Subjects for photography at the zoo are wide-ranging and may include plants, animals, concerts, visitors and exhibits. Images made by the intern may be used in on-grounds signage, advertising, multimedia presentations, on our Web site, or published in our member magazine, @thezoo.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates for this position must have knowledge of digital photography, including the use of professional digital photographic equipment (Nikon or Canon digital SLRs). Experience using Photoshop is a necessity. The position requires a commitment of 16-20 hours a week for the roughly three-month duration of the internship and is open to those 18 years of age and older. Students will be responsible for arranging to receive credit through their university or college. Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the applicant. Interns are subject to a background check and TB test.

Education/Experience:
Students pursuing a degree in photography (commercial, photojournalism etc.) from an accredited college or university are preferred, however, candidates displaying a high level of commitment to working as a photographer as evidenced by a strong portfolio, will also be considered.

Provide a CD portfolio with up to 20 of your best images (some should be of animals, and some of non-animal subjects). Standard jpeg files, a flash slideshow, or PDF slideshow are preferred formats. Alternately, you may provide (in your hard-copy application) the Web site address where your portfolio may be viewed.
