Instructor in the Education Department at Woodland Park
Zoo in Seattle. This position provides early childhood (infants through 5 years old) education. This is a seasonal, part-time
position.
Summary:
Instructor will be responsible for educating children
and adults in order to promote awareness, respect and caring
for wildlife and conservation. The KinderCamp and early childhood
programs are new this year.
- Early
Childhood Programs (6 weeks): Instructor teaches early
childhood classes to parents and infants/toddlers.
There will be some program development involved.
- KinderCamp
(4 weeks): Instructor utilizes two pre-determined curricula.
Instructor works in an instructor/assistant team
to teach up to 10 3-and 4-year-olds in a half-day camp each
week.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities: include the
following:
- Teach
age appropriate curricula to children and adults conveying
awareness of and respect for wildlife and conservation.
- Develop
and use creative activities, such as games, crafts and
zoo tours, to convey camp subject matter.
- Share
knowledge of zoology, ecology, conservation, science and
the zoo with children and families.
- Interact
in a professional and customer service-oriented manner
with children and parents.
- Act
as lead for camp assistants and Zoo Corp teens.
- Participate
as a cooperative contributing team member.
- Maintain
an environment aimed at the safety and well-being of program
participants.
- Perform
other duties as assigned.

of state and national educational standards, early childhood

of the zoo, zoology, ecology, and conservation.

Education/Experience:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent preferably in early childhood education
or primary grades from two-year college or technical school; or 2 years experience
working with children, and/or training; or equivalent combination of education
and experience. College-level education with course work in the natural sciences
or education. Certificates,
Licenses, Registrations:
First Aid and CPR a plus.
Work
Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to
outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually
