Position Title:
Grounds Maintenance Worker, Lead (Internal Applicants Only)

Department:
Grounds, Facilities and Operations

Reports to:
Supervisor, Grounds and Event Support

FLSA Status:
Non-exempt/Hourly

Pay Rate:
$20.35 /hour

Posting:
Applications are now being accepted for Grounds Maintenance Worker, Lead,
in the Grounds unit of the Facilities and Operations Department at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. This is one full-time, regular, benefited position seasonal, to be filled at this time. This position is limited to Woodland Park Zoo internal candidates only.

Summary:
Coordinates and leads the day-to-day activities of subordinate staff by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following:

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and participate in the day-to-day work assignments for laborer involved in ongoing maintenance projects.
  • Direct and perform activities including garbage removal, litter removal and event setup.
  • Lead others and operate equipment including power saw, power blower, dump truck, pressure washer and sweepers.
  • Instruct new employees on the use of tools and equipment, provides expert advice, and complete performance evaluations subject to approval of crew chief.
  • Prepare personnel and equipment records; prepare field and weekly reports.
  • Repair and maintain equipment and tools; order and pick up supplies.
  • Assist in coordinating jobs with skilled trades.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Washington State Driver's License required

Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills preferred: ability to access online timesheet and receive and send email

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
