Water LilyWATER LILY

Born: August 30, 1978, at the Houston Zoo, Texas

Weight: estimated at 4,000 pounds (1,814 kg)

History: came to Woodland Park Zoo on October 17, 1979. Local Camp Fire Girls raised money to help defray transportation costs to bring Water Lily here from the Houston Zoo. The Camp Fire Girls named her Water Lily.

Distinctive features: second largest of the three hippos; less hairy than Gertie

Born: November 11, 1999

Weight: as of April 2004: approximately 2,800 pounds (1270 kg)

History: Guadalupe came to Woodland Park Zoo on July 11, 2003, by way of truck from Orlando, Florida. At the time of her arrival, she weighed approximately 2,200 pounds (998 kg).

Distinctive features: smallest of the three hippos, she has a rosy color to her skin
